Jane Stevenson, Member of Parliament for Wolverhampton North East, has been marking Armed Forces Week by celebrating the enormous contribution of our Service Personnel, both in the UK and abroad. She is also promoting careers and apprenticeships in our Forces.
As a member of the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme (AFPS), Jane is privileged to spend time with all three Services. The scheme allows cross-party MPs to learn about Forces careers, and gives a valuable insight into strategy and operational capability.
Commenting Jane said:
"I have met the most inspirational and dedicated people during my two years on the Scheme, with a good number coming from the Black Country! I got involved in the AFPS to learn about Defence and about the wide range of careers in our Armed Forces. Our three Services are in the top 10 apprenticeship providers, and all young people should be aware of these fantastic opportunities. You can earn as you learn and gain a wide range of qualifications that are recognised even after you leave the Forces.
Most people don't realise you can train in Medicine, Engineering, Plumbing, Catering, Construction, IT, Law or Animal Care. You'll also gain a whole range of other life-skills and won't have any student debt! I'd urge any young person to check out the Navy, Army and Air Force websites, or visit the recruitment centre in Wolverhampton for advice"
