Jane Stevenson, MP for Wolverhampton North East, has been helping to deliver Government-funded food parcels to some of the city’s most vulnerable residents, as the lockdown continues.
The food parcels, which are prepared and dispatched from the Aldersley Leisure Village, have been made possible thanks to the £12.7 million that Wolverhampton Council has received from Government since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
In total, over £3.2 billion of additional funding has been allocated to local authorities by the Government since the pandemic began.
Jane has been delivering food parcels across her Wolverhampton North East constituency, including in Low Hill, Heath Town, Pendeford and Bushbury.
She said: “It is a privilege to be helping deliver food parcels to some of my most vulnerable constituents, making sure that they have the basic supplies and food they need during this difficult time.
“I'll keep doing this every week for as long as the pandemic continues. I’ve met some fantastic people who have really appreciated the support that is being offered, and it’s been lovely to chat to people who need to stay indoors.
“The financial support from Government to local authorities, who are on the frontline responding to this crisis, is extremely welcome and has made a huge difference in terms of enabling not just the distribution of food parcels, but also council tax relief for struggling families.”
