Wolverhampton North East MP Jane Stevenson joined residents at Broadway Gardens retirement village in Bushbury for a socially-distanced singalong and wave, as a show of support for elderly and vulnerable people who have struggled during the coronavirus pandemic.
Jane visited the Midland Heart-run retirement village which has 56 apartments and allows residents to enjoy the freedom and independence of their own property whilst providing on-site facilities and services to fulfil essential needs.
She met residents and staff at the site, and took part in their weekly 11am ‘social’ which included singing along to songs from the late Dame Vera Lynn as well as Neil Diamond. These regular social events are arranged by the scheme managers at Broadway Gardens as a way of reassuring residents that services are continuing to be provided and help is available if needed.
It’s also a great opportunity for residents to interact with friends, neighbours and staff.
Jane said: “It was great to visit Broadway Gardens retirement village in Bushbury and chat to some of the residents about how they are keeping their spirits up during the coronavirus pandemic. I was delighted to take part in their 11am social event, which included a bit of singing along to some classic songs!
“I want to thank all of the staff at Broadway Gardens for the brilliant work they are doing during this challenging time, making sure that residents continue to have access to the services and help they need.
“It is vital that our elderly and vulnerable residents in Wolverhampton are not forgotten during this crisis, particularly as they are the ones who are most in need of support or even just a chance to interact with other people. Schemes such as Broadway Gardens are a fantastic way of providing that support.”
Broadway Gardens scheme manager Amandeep Sogi said: “It’s been a tough few weeks for our residents and colleagues but our morning waves have helped to keep them in a cheerful mood, and having our MP along to join in has been a very special highlight.
“We would like to thank Jane for taking the time to visit and chat to our residents, and join in with a singalong! We hope she enjoyed the morning as much as we did.”
