Jane Stevenson, MP for Wolverhampton North East, has visited the Morrisons store in Pendeford to learn more about their work with the local community throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
She met the store’s Community Champion, Marie Lock, who has been engaging with local charities across the city, as well as offering support to schools and care homes.
The supermarket operates a Doorstep Deliveries service, which at the height of the lockdown earlier this year was delivering to 70 properties in Wolverhampton every week, in addition to its online delivery service. Doorstep Deliveries have recently restarted following new coronavirus restrictions being introduced.
Elderly and vulnerable customers can call the store directly to place their order, and local care homes have also been given the number so they can order deliveries too. Extra online delivery slots have been made available for university and college students who are having to self-isolate.
The Morrisons Pendeford store works closely with Wolverhampton-based charities such as P3 and the Good Shepherd Ministry. Nationally, Morrisons supports CLIC Sargent, a cancer charity for children and young people.
Jane said: “I was delighted to visit Morrisons in Pendeford and learn about the fantastic work they are doing in the local community, particularly as the coronavirus pandemic continues. They have supported local charities, and reached out to nearby schools and care homes to offer support to our elderly and vulnerable residents.
“Many of our most vulnerable friends and family members do struggle to get online to order their shopping, so I am pleased to see that Morrisons is offering a way for people to contact the store directly.
“I want to thank the store’s Community Champion Marie Lock for her outstanding work in supporting our city at this incredibly difficult time.”
