Wolverhampton North East MP Jane Stevenson attended the official unveiling of a coronavirus memorial mosaic at Northycote Farm in Bushbury.
The mosaic was unveiled on Saturday 31st October by the Friends of Northycote Farm in the sensory garden, and is a tribute to those who have suffered or are still suffering from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
The mosaic of yellow hearts was made entirely by members of the Friends of Northycote, with materials donated by Tile Choice. Staff at Northycote Farm assisted with the initial woodwork for the design, in creating new planters and in positioning the mosaic into the ground in the sensory garden.
The sensory garden itself was created and is maintained by the Friends of Northycote Farm.
The group hopes that the memorial mosaic will provide a place where many from the community of farm users can quietly reflect on the suffering in 2020 or remember those they have known, loved, and lost.
Jane said: “I was honoured to attend the unveiling of the coronavirus memorial mosaic at Northycote Farm. The mosaic and the sensory garden provide a valuable space for reflection and peace during this awful pandemic.
“I know many people have lost loved ones or suffered from the effects of the virus itself, and there has also been a wider impact on people’s health and wellbeing as a result of the restrictions.
“So this memorial will allow people from Bushbury and across the city to come and reflect on the year’s events and pay tribute to those who may no longer be with us or are facing particular hardship at this difficult time. The Friends of Northycote Farm do a fantastic job in maintaining the sensory garden, and I thank them for inviting me.”
