Jane Stevenson, MP for Wolverhampton North East, has nominated the Ashmore Inn on Griffiths Drive, Ashmore Park for a community pub award.
The awards are run by the organisation PubAid, which exists to highlight the great work done by UK pubs and raises more than £100 million a year for hundreds of charities. They launched the Community Pub Hero Awards 2021 in recognition of the work that pubs across the country have done throughout the pandemic.
During the lockdown earlier this year, the Ashmore Inn set up a food bank and also took in donated items such as children’s toys and cleaning materials which were given to families in need on the Ashmore Park estate.
Jane visited the pub in May to donate some items, and was amazed at the support that they had given to the community.
She said: “The Ashmore Inn is a pillar of the local community in Ashmore Park, and the staff have been there to provide support to vulnerable people throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
“That is why I am delighted to nominate the pub for the Community Pub Hero Awards 2021. I visited the pub during lockdown in May to donate some items to their food bank, and it was incredible to see just how much they were giving back to the community.
“I want to thank the landlord Kevin Ward and all of the team for their extraordinary efforts, and fingers crossed they make it to the finals!”
