Jane Stevenson, MP for Wolverhampton North East, recently met with apprentices Callum and Britney from Collins Aerospace. 60 apprentices from across the aerospace, defence, security and space industries attended a reception in Parliament.
Secretary of State for Education, Gillian Keegan and the Minister of State for Industry and Economic Security, Nusrat Ghani MP, spoke at the reception to celebrate apprentices and the economic importance of the aerospace sector.
Commenting Jane said:
“It was wonderful to meet Callum and Britney who are excellent ambassadors for UK Apprentices and for Wolverhampton North East.
Apprenticeships now offer some of the best career routes for young people. Callum and Britney earn while they learn from the best in the Aerospace Industry and can gain degrees without any student debts!
Our local aerospace firms like Collins Aerospace, Moog Aircraft Group and HS Marston manufacture for some of the worlds most advanced fighter jets and helicopters.
These brilliant training opportunities will ensure that the next generation of world class engineers and technicians are home-grown right here in Wolverhampton North East.”
Kevin Craven, CEO of ADS commented:
“Finding solutions to the critical skills gap is one of the largest factors affecting the future of our sectors. We’re incredibly proud to support our members in delivering apprenticeships as a fantastic pathway to high-wage, high-skilled jobs across the country. At our parliamentary reception, we heard first hand from political stakeholders across the board their commitment to delivering prosperity for our future workforces.”
“From the new era of flight and the sustainability agenda, the deployment of AI and machine learning in defence and national security, or the UK’s Future Launch capability, the skills needs in our sectors continue to rapidly evolve.”
